Criminal Secretary

  • Full time, permanent
  • Starting salary £20,000 per annum to be reviewed at the end of the probationary period (usually 3 months)

This solicitors’ firm is one of the oldest established high street practices in Birmingham, with offices in Acocks Green, Moseley, Hall Green, and Walmley. Our client offers practical and affordable legal advice tailored to individual needs, addressing a wide range of legal matters, from residential and commercial property to criminal defence and appeals.


Details of the role:

As a Criminal Secretary, you will play a crucial role in providing secretarial and administrative support to our client's dedicated legal team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of their firm while enhancing your skills in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Audio typing at a minimum of 60 words per minute
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Excellent command of English grammar and spelling
  • General office and administrative skills
  • Confident telephone manner
  • Strong time management skills


The ideal candidate:

Are you an organised and detail-oriented individual with a passion for criminal law? Our client is looking for someone who possesses the following qualities:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Sensitivity in dealing with clients
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Experience in diary management
  • Familiarity with legal documentation and court systems
  • Proficiency in IT, including case management systems and online portals
  • Awareness of data protection and cyber security issues

  • Attendance at court hearings and conferences with counsel and clients
