Our client is a modern and specialist set, renowned for expertise in crime, extradition, immigration, family, civil and public Law.   Their reputation for excellence at the Bar is founded on its strength, at all levels, of its individual members and has swiftly become prominent in a crowded market.

Chambers currently seek a Clerk to join their existing busy team, gaining experience across all practice areas.  The role will suit an ambitious, motivated individual with a real desire to progress alongside chambers.  This is a virtual role, with full support and guidance provided from their established clerking team.

Reporting to the Senior Clerk and Management Committee, the successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the appropriate skills for this particular role.

Role description

  • Assisting with diary management 
  • Daily running of Chambers’ business 
  • Managing supplies 

Main responsibilities

  • Answering incoming calls – All calls should be answered and dealt with promptly. 
  • Email management – Emails should be replied to or forwarded, where reasonable, within 1 hour within working hours. This includes emails sent to you personally, to the generic email address or to your CJSM ad- dress. 
  • Assisting with diary management 
    • Assisting the clerking team with all diary management at the direction of the Senior Clerk. 
    • Liaising with instructing solicitors, court staff and other parties to make requests for time markings/CVP/court room etc. 
    • Liaising with instructing solicitors, court staff and other parties to move cases 
  • Checking the published court lists and cross referencing with our diary. 
  • Notifying members of chambers of their listings for the following day and ensuring that they have 
    • access to their case papers, solicitors are notified etc. 
  • Keeping track of any hearings that have been vacated and liaising with the list offices for new dates. 
  • Ensuring that an attendance note is provided for every hearing and the notes are forwarded to both instructing solicitors and the clerking team for results to be processed. 
  • All diary activity should be agreed with a senior member of the clerking team or at their request. 

 

Hours: 8:45am to 6pm – remote working using Skype with some expectation of work outside of these hours.

You may be asked to travel to meetings/events/training in London on occasion. Travel costs outside of London will be reasonably reimbursed with a valid receipt.
