The Legal Secretary Role
Key responsibilities of Legal Secretary include:
- Typing up dictation as well as editing, proofing and formatting documents
- Managing all new client documentation and the administration of opening and closing files
- Maintaining an effective and ordered filing system for allocated cases
- Managing archiving and storage collection
- Preparing of client invoicing and managing banking slips
- Assisting clients with updates when Solicitor is not available
- Processing incoming and outgoing email, mail etc.
- Ensure compliance with professional standards and the firm’s policies in general
- Managing a busy work diary
- Copying, scanning and filling, both electronically and manually
- Covering reception on a rota basis during lunch hours
- Dealing with a busy caseload
The Ideal Legal Secretary
As a Legal Secretary it is essential you can demonstrate the following skills and competencies:
- Ability to establish and maintain good client relationships, both internally and externally at all levels
- Competence in Microsoft Office products
- Calm, confident manner to handle potentially uncomfortable conversations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good attention to detail
- The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Experience as a Legal Secretary with an understanding of a Private Client Department, dealing with Wills, Probate, LPA’s and taxation
