JUNIOR LEGAL SECRETARY
Located in New Square, Lincoln's Inn
The Family Department is looking to recruit a hard working junior legal secretary, who is willing to learn, to join a dynamic team, where your knowledge and skills will be honed by first rate fee earners, in a supportive environment.
Payne Hicks Beach is a 27 partner firm of solicitors based in five offices in New Square, Lincoln's Inn. In total, the firm has a complement of approximately 150 partners and staff.
The firm was founded in 1730, and draws strength from its long history. However, whilst valuing its history, the firm has a modern outlook. The firm has particular expertise in private client work, including family work, and together these two areas account for around 75% of the firm's fee income. We are one of the leading firms in the country in both private client and family work.

The strategy of the firm is to grow by selective recruitment of individuals with a proven track record in their particular area of expertise. The firm has continued to flourish in recent years and has a sound financial base from which to continue to grow in a planned way.
Family Law Department
The Department is made up of 8 Partners, 3 Consultants, 10 Associates, 5 Assistant Solicitors, 1 Trainee, 1 Paralegal, 3 Admin staff and 12 Secretaries. The client base comprises high net worth individuals and includes many household names. The department is highly rated by both Legal 500 and Chambers directories and is widely regarded as one of the leading family law practices in the country.
Secretaries in the department work for either one or two specific fee earners but are all expected to help each other, to work as a team and to cover for other fee earners as and when required.
The Department is looking to recruit a hard-working and willing secretary to join the team.
Your key duties will include, but will not be limited to;
- Liaising with clients both face to face and over the phone
- Audio/copy typing, including digital dictation
- Assisting/supporting solicitors and fee earners within the department
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- General administrative duties
- Diary management
- Document management
- Maintaining all filing systems effectively
We are looking for an organised, intelligent individual with a good telephone manner who can deal with clients and members of the firm at all levels; who can act with discretion when dealing with confidential information and who is well presented at all times. We do not operate a dress down policy.
This is a junior position and the ideal candidate will have at least one year's previous legal experience, preferably within Family Law.
You must have good IT skills in Word and Excel. You will need to have the ability to work in a small team and pay close attention to detail.
You will be an organised secretary who is willing to learn and able to work to deadlines, with concise writing skills, spelling, punctuation and proof reading skills would suit this role
IT in the Firm
The firm has a network running on Windows 7 with Office 2010 running on the desktops with access to Word, Excel and SOS Practice Management system.
