Nelson Guest & Partners are a busy firm specialising in Criminal Defence. The firm is recruiting for an administrator to run our Police Station Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for a legal secretary or administrator to gain a fascinating insight into this practice area and, most importantly, valuable experience through exposure to a wide range of tasks, such as:

  • Maintaining a rota of police station representatives who are covering interviews at the police station and the phones overnight;
  • Diary management;
  • Managing a caseload of clients being represented at the police station and keeping them updated by writing appropriate letters;
  • Proactively chasing results and notes from police station representatives;
  • Dealing with general telephone enquiries;
  • Billing matters on conclusion of police station matters and applying sound knowledge of the Legal Aid billing rules (the contract will be provided to you on employment);
  • Opening files on our Case Management software and allocating files as appropriate to fee-earners within the firm; and
  • Data entry and maintenance of monthly reports

The role will obviously require somebody who is organised, efficient and sufficiently literate. A strong grasp of the English language is required. Part of the interview process will examine letter-writing.

This is a full-time position (9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday) and time-keeping is crucial, particularly as the role requires switching the office phones off divert first thing in the morning and putting them back on divert in the evening.
