Many of ILSPA’s Students choose to study the Legal Secretaries Diploma alongside their university degrees to enhance both their skills and career prospects. Recently, we spoke with Ella Ramsey, who completed the course during the summer before her final year of university. Ella shared why she felt the Diploma was the perfect complement to her other qualifications and how it helped her with her work experience placements.

What were you doing before you joined ILSPA?

Before I started my Legal Secretaries Diploma, I was about to finish my second year of undergraduate study in Law with Criminology at university. I was about to finish for the academic year when I saw an advert for the Diploma that came up on my LinkedIn Feed. After researching about it and speaking to the advisors at the Institute, I noticed it fitted in well with my schedule and meant I could attain an extra qualification before I started my last year of my degree.

What is it about being a Legal Secretary that interests you?

I mainly completed this Diploma for the skills and knowledge I knew I would attain, to then use to my advantage when applying for opportunities after I had graduated.

Why did you decide to do ILSPA's Legal Secretaries Diploma course?

I decided to complete the course as I knew it would give me extra experience in the practicalities of the legal industry. I was already learning about the theoretical side of the law at university and so I wanted to put it into practice.

How are you able to use the knowledge and skills you have gained in your role?

I was able to use it on various work experience placements over the summer. For example, taking attendance notes and writing letters. This resulted in me being offered a job as a Criminal Defence Paralegal, that I will do part-time alongside my final year at university.

What are your future career goals?

I aspire to sit the SQE exams and qualify as a Solicitor!
