1. Purpose
This policy explains how Students may or may not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Grammarly, or similar while completing coursework.
2. Appropriate Use of AI
Students may use AI tools for assignments in supportive tasks including:
Brainstorming ideas or outlining topics
Summarising or explaining concepts
Checking grammar, clarity, and structure
AI can be used as a learning aid, not as a replacement for your own thinking or work.
3. Prohibited Use of AI
ACHIEVEMENT TESTS
The multiple-choice achievement tests are designed to measure each Student’s individual knowledge and skills. To maintain fairness and academic integrity, the use of AI tools during these tests is strictly prohibited.
Students may not use any AI tools for:
Generating or selecting answers to test questions
Searching for explanations or hints during the test
Capturing, copying, or inputting test questions into AI systems
Translating questions or answers using AI tools
Any form of assistance that influences or determines test responses
These tests must be completed independently, without digital assistance beyond what is specifically permitted by the assessor.
Any use of AI during multiple-choice tests is considered academic misconduct.
ASSIGNMENTS
Students may not use AI for:
Fully writing assignments, essays, reports, or solutions
Generating content and submitting it as their own
Creating fake citations, data, quotes, or references
Any use that bypasses genuine learning or misrepresents a Student’s abilities
Submitting AI-generated work as your own is considered academic misconduct.
4. Disclosure Requirement
Students must include a brief AI Use Statement when AI meaningfully contributed to an assignment. Example:
“I used ChatGPT to help generate ideas and check grammar. All analysis and final writing are my own.”
Assessors may request drafts or evidence of the Student’s original thinking.
5. Student Responsibility
Regardless of AI use, Students are responsible for:
Ensuring all submitted work is their own
Verifying the accuracy of AI-supported content
Ensuring all citations, facts, and code are correct and real
Meeting assignment requirements and learning goals
6. Academic Integrity
Improper use of AI is a form of academic dishonesty. Students are expected to use AI responsibly, transparently, and ethically.
